For more than 60 years, Id-Dar tal-Providenza has provided a welcoming home for persons with disabilities, supporting every individual to live with dignity, develop their abilities and participate fully in the community.

Who we are

Founded by Mgr Mikiel Azzopardi in 1965, Id-Dar tal-Providenza provides individualised residential services for persons with disabilities within a warm, family-like environment.

Today, the organisation continues to build on its founder’s vision, supporting residents to develop their abilities, exercise greater autonomy and participate meaningfully in society.

Id-Dar tal-Providenza is a voluntary organisation within the Archdiocese of Malta and is registered with the Commissioner for Voluntary Organisations (VO/1066).

Our mission is to provide individualised long-term and respite residential services for persons with disabilities, while promoting their holistic development, autonomy, self-determination and inclusion within the community.

We support this mission by investing in our people, creating meaningful opportunities for volunteers, and collaborating with organisations that share our commitment to safeguarding the rights of persons with disabilities and their families.

Residences

Today, Dar tal-Providenza includes three residences: Villa Monsinjur Gonzi, Villa Papa Giovanni, and Villa Papa Luciani. It also operates four community homes: Żerniq in Siġġiewi, Akkwarell in Qawra, Dar Pirotta in Birkirkara, and Shalom in Żurrieq.

The Home also offers regular respite services to families of persons with disabilities, enabling the family member with a disability to continue living with their family.

Id-Dar tal-Providenza, which takes its name and charism from the Gospel, is primarily a residential organisation committed to empowering persons with disabilities in a family-like environment which enhances and maximises their abilities with a view to ensuring their full participation in society in accordance to the Gospel and the teaching of the Catholic Church.

Our Network

Id-Dar tal-Providenza is affiliated with a foreign agency based in Glasgow, Scotland, called SPRED – Special Religious Development, which offers a range of services to help persons with intellectual disabilities integrate into prayer communities within parishes through a process of faith education.

The Home is also affiliated with the European Association of Service Providers for Persons with Disabilities, which represents over 15,000 support services for persons with disabilities across Europe.
